You are recently assigned to manage an effort to upgrade about 200 desktops in your company to Windows 10. The project has 4 team members reporting directly to you and is estimated to last about 3 months. Per your company's project management standards, you are required to conduct the following activities.

1. Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) that lists all tasks required for this project.

Specifically,

• Construct the WBS in a tabular form

• Provide four levels of detail

• Describe best practices in general for constructing a good WBS (Note: additional research on this topic beyond the textbook is strongly encouraged)

• Articulate what best practices have been utilized in this assignment and what have not due to the constraints of this assignment

Note 1: A good WBS needs to incorporate both PM concepts and realistic tasks to complete the project. First, this is a project manager class. Students from this class are encouraged to think more like project managers than engineers. Example of PM concepts that would be covered in the WBS include project integration, scope definition, monitoring, etc. Next, please include realistic tasks that will lead to the completion of this specific project, rather than general tasks that could apply to any project. A typical question one would ask after finishing a draft WBS is "If one were to transfer the WBS to another project manager, would he or she be able to finish the project?"

Note 2: The best practices should be something that's applicable regardless of the approach. Some examples include 100% rule, 40% rule of decomposition, collaboration with team, etc.

2. Develop a WBS dictionary to briefly describe each work package.

3. Estimate duration for each work package, sequence activities at the work package level, and construct a Gantt Chart for this project.

Note 3: You are allowed and encouraged to use software tools, such as Microsoft Project, when needed and appropriate to complete the assignment. If a tool is used, the submission of the assignment should include a PDF output from such tool instead of raw files utilized by tools, such as .mpp file from Microsoft Project.

Format: Single-spaced; 12 Point Times New Roman font; One inch margins

• Number of Pages: Not to exceed 5 pages. The 5-page limit includes supporting materials such as references, figures, or charts

• Citations: Clear citations should be provided, in APA format, when applicable for all work that is not your own.
