Assessment Instructions
The PDP is made up of two parts. The first is an online BlackBoard multiple choice test that assesses your understanding of key academic skills and the second is a summary essay question asking you to explore how the content of the module will frame your future development.
Part 1: Online Multiple-choice test (20%)
This test will be completed through BlackBoard and will open at 12pm on the 11th October 2018. It will close at 12pm on the 23rd October 2018.
The test will make up 20% of the PDP mark (or 12% of the overall module mark). You will have three attempts at the test and your highest mark will be used.
Guidance - Prior to completing the test, you should ensure that you understand the material presented in both the academic skills seminars and the library academic skills workbook.
You are advised to complete the test in a quiet area where you can concentrate and, preferably, on a UWE networked computer. If you have any problems accessing the test, please contact a module leader immediately. It is your responsibility to ensure you have access in good time to complete the test within the designated window.
Part 2: Personal Development Portfolio Summary Essay Question
Critically analyse how your understanding of contemporary and self-management will be incorporated into the decisions you make about your future professional development, career choices and your degree. The analyses must be based on the aspects of Personal Development Portfolio activities completed on the module and informed by relevant theory and research.
Guidance - individual work in essay format(1,250-1,500 words) submit via Blackboard as a single word document
• Maintain a focus on answering the question throughout. Keep checking your work to make sure you are discussing:
o Your future development and purpose relevant to your future career
o Your learning about your strengths, weaknesses, and your skills and difficulties informed by the PDP activities and contemporary management topics covered in the module
o The implications of this for your future career
• Think of yourself as the CASE STUDY to be analysed - read the assignment question above, the marking scheme, and this brief to decide how to do this.
• Between Week 7 and 11, you have completed a Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) in the tutorials which consisted of five tasks. We recommend you review these. You may wish to reflect on aspects already raised on those or additional areas of your learning from this module or your experience in your first year at the university. [Note: you do NOT hand in the tutorial activities - the assignment is to write a summary essay].
• Whatever you decide to focus on make sure you relate your discussion to contemporary management topics and wider management theorising to support your analysis of yourself.
• Remember to earn good marks you MUST use relevant theories to support your self-evaluation and insights.
• The marking scheme describes the assessment marking criteria in detail. This can guide you on the standard of work expected and how you construct your answer
• Use the full word count to maximise your marks
• Read the Coursework 2 Frequently Asked Questions (available on Blackboard) AND make sure that you attend the Q&A lecture and seminar for this coursework.
