An obligate anaerobe that utilizes glycolysis as its major energyproducing pathway suffers a mutation that results in inactive triose phosphateisomerase. How would this affect ATP production and could such an organism survive?

The step catalyzed by hexokinase is the first step in theglycolytic pathway from glucose to pyruvate, yet the major control point of glycolysis is at thestep catalyzed by phosphofructokinase 1. Explain why glycolysis is not primarilyregulated at this first step.
