The Australian National University (ANU) is a national asset and one of the world’s leading centers for research and education.This University was founded by the Australian Government in the year 1946 to apply the best minds to the biggest questions and help advance Australia’s international standing.At present ANU continues its nation-building work, teaching and community engagement on issues of national leading Australian thinking, and international significance.
The University is consistently ranked among the best universities in the world by a range of international measures. In the year 2011, 94 per cent of research from ANU scholars was rated above world standard or well above world standard by the Australian Government’s Excellence in Research for Australia initiative.

The University is home to above 17,000 students, 40 per cent studying at the postgraduate level. The ANU also attracts people from around the world, with approximately one quarter of its students coming from overseas. The University stands alongside the worlds other leading research and teaching institutions as Australia’s only member of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU). The main ANU campus is nestled on 145 hectares of parklands in the centre of the nation’s capital, Canberra. Facilities comprises of on campus accommodation in a range of residential styles, advanced laboratories and lecture theatres, the two million volumes on shelves of five major libraries and access to a wealth of e-resources. The campus have all the conveniences of a small town including cafés, medical services, sporting fields, restaurants, shops, art galleries, and bookshops, all in walking distance of the city centre. Number of students live on or near campus, making use of spacious grounds and the city next door to study, play sport, and have fun.
