Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a leading Australian university with a strong professional emphasis in its course profile and a rapidly developing research reputation. With an annual budget of $760 million, QUT enrolls 42,000 students.
QUT’s courses are in high demand, and graduates takes advantage of excellent job and career outcomes. The academic programs from bachelor degree to PhD are provided in business, education, creative industries, health, science, engineering, and law. Almost 20 per cent of total enrolments are at postgraduate level, and almost 15 per cent of our students come from overseas.
QUT is recognized for the relevance of its teaching and research to industry, professions and broader community. The university’s actual world positioning is also underpinned by close relationships with employers and professional bodies, which offers students a unique balance of theory and practical skills. The students enjoy some of the highest quality, technologically superior social learning spaces in Australia, following the recent multimillion dollar upgrade of our libraries, student regions and research environments. Our academics are consistently recognized in national teaching awards.
Over the past decade, QUT has greatly expanded its research and international profile. The two Commonwealth-funded cooperative research centers (wound management and engineering asset management) is hosted by it and is a participant in seven others.
It has established Queensland’s first Confucius Institute and hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation, the Australian- Canadian Prostate Cancer Research Alliance, the Microsoft eResearch Centre, AusSun Research Lab the Syngenta Centre for Sugarcane Biofuel Development, and the Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation. Bluebox, QUT’s commercialization company, develops and manages commercial relationships among QUT and industry.
Major institutes have been established in the areas of health and biomedical innovation; technology, science, engineering and mathematics (STEM); and creative industries. These draw together our own researchers and external partners, to tackle some of the main R&D challenges of our time.
Based in Brisbane, QUT has three campuses: at Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove in inner city, and at the Caboolture north of the city. Gardens Point campus will be the transformed in 2012 with the opening of a new $230 million Science and Engineering Centre. At the Kelvin Grove, a modern urban village development is integrating campus with the community.
