The government has pledged itscommitment in which the high-quality public services seek to benefit everyone. There are1400 more people who have access to mental health services each day in comparison to2010, and the government continues to invest more in mental health. The goal is to have1 million more persons accessing mental health services by 2020, though there are stepsto be taken to achieve it. The information brings to the attention of the state of the mentalhealth services as provided by the government. In spite of the major advancements inmental health services, there is need to conduct risk assessment and management inmental health care which is crucial for the establishment of effective health systems andenhancing patient safety as will be addressed in the research paper.Safety is key in the provision of quality mental health services. However, varyingadverse events occur which can be tragic to individual consequences. There are severalrisks involved in mental health nursing and the nursing practitioners ought to understandthem and the likelihood of occurring. Thus, the protection of harm to all the peopleinvolved is a major considerate factor in risk management (Barker, 2009). The mentalhealth services users are at increased risk of suicide, self-injury, neglect, depression, 3Best Practices in Mental Health Nursing exploitation either physically, financially, or sexually, and violence towards other people(Barker, 2009). They are the major clinical risk management aspects that have to beassessed in the attempts of improving patient safety.There is need to manage and reduce the risks in mental health services delivery.The clinical risk management has a concern about violence and the self-destructivebehavior and seeks for ways of protecting the patients and the nursing staff from risksassociated with care provision to the mentally ill persons. Treatment errors that ariseduring therapy administration are also necessary to be addressed since it impacts on thequality of services provided to the patients. Other risks associated with mental illnessesinclude depression and psychosis which should be addressed by providing the patientswith a suitable environment where their concerns are addressed (Varcarolis, 2013). Manymental health patients do not admit their ill condition and believe that they are in thehospital against their wish. The research paper provides a comprehensive discussion ofthe best practices in mental health nursing by focusing on risk assessment andmanagement. Summary and critical analysis of evidence based practiceThere are various researchers who have analyzed the application of riskevaluation and management in administering mental health care services.
