We feel that we are drawn intoan evocatve plot and the main design theme, the contributory features, aspects;the nity-grity detailing is wholesomely presented and wakens our senses. When Chief Practsing Designer, Rahin Pavithran of Ahanas Design 4 Space,Kochi, chose to work on this project, it meant a lot to him. He decided to focusand center his ideas on what was the main foodfare, a popular, healthy stapleKerala breakfast food item, ‘Putu’ made of rice and coconut which was steamedand served with an array of accompaniments. With ‘Putu’ being the dominant‘theme’ the design was centered on this principal factor. As per WHO, Wellness is an actve process of becoming aware of and makingchoices toward a healthy and fulflling life.“...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infrmity.” J Stanford describes Wellness as “Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state ofbeing.” Wellness encompasses more than just being disease-free. It is a dynamicprogression towards transformaton and development. In fact, it is an ongoing, anytme, all-tme process or actvity which promotes awareness building ofthe many available choices which are benefcial and promotes a healthier andsatsfying life. How did it come about? It is said that Dr. Halbert L Dunn, frst referred to the term Wellness in the 1950sto depict a healthy balance between the mind, body and soul which gives rise toa great sense of wellness. Gradually, Wellness gained prominence in the 1970sand it grew as a major health component promotng conscious self-awarenessand self-development. “ All of us are in the constantquest of seeking meaning andpurpose to our lives as it unfoldswith the situations, trials andtribulations we encounter in thejourney called Life. ” Categorizing the Wellness Dimensions should feel enriched, rewarded and recognized andat the same tme, contribute wholeheartedly and isPhysical Wellness completely involved in the job.Being ft, actve and lively is the very basis Physical Spiritual Wellness Wellness. In this context, to experience or going through, or if we are incapable ofoccupatonal wellness, it should be a collaboratve acknowledging or understanding our emotonalefort that is meaningful and gratfying. In order to achieve this, being aware of and acceptng no confict, we accomplish Social Wellness.feelings and thoughts, to be realistc, coping withstressful situatons, and to apply a positve approach How Ayurveda always stressed on Wellnessto life would help us reach the state of EmotonalWellness. The established, ancient alternatve medical system,Ayurveda centers on the wellness element ratherIntellectual Wellness than rootng out the illness. Therefore, as perAyurvedic science, in daily living, health and wellnessIf we have to evolve, grow spiritually, it is important to can be achieved only when there is a perfect balanceexplore our potentals, challenge ourselves, critcally established between mind, body, soul and nature. analyze and a constant quest to learn, all these act asstmulants to achieve Intellectual Wellness. As per Ayurvedic principles, the human life is anamalgamaton of mind, body, nature and soul.Social Wellness Each one of have an inimitable nature, which is ourprakrit, and this in turn is made up of any one ofWhen ‘I’ is replaced by ‘We’ even ‘illness’ becomes the fve rudiments of nature or panchabhutams. We‘Wellness.’ Developing good interpersonal have our inimitable qualites or characters that arerelatonships and recognizing that we are referred to as our gunas. And connectng the dotsinterdependent and acceptng of others’ and between these elements is our life-force or physicalmaintaining good, harmonious relatonships with energies known as doshas. The three doshas being, family and friends renders happiness. When there is vata, pita and kapha dosha. When our doshas are in a pleasant state, there is a feeling of wellness and we arealso ft. But generally, we are made of at least two doshas, one which is dominantand the other plays a minor role. So in order to reach a state of wellness, Ayurvedaprescribes understanding and perceiving our physical energies. Consequently,Ayurveda doles out very simple, easy to understand and practce techniques, when we understand our bodies, listen to them, understand, respect and takecare of it, then health and wellness have a harmonizing efect. As per Ayurveda, the mind and heart is one entty. Because, the mind dwells inour heart and therefore, our emotonal and mental connect is easily infuencedby our physical wellbeing. And assimilatng and adaptng these age-old Ayurvedicprinciples of Wellness, is Ayuryogashram, an Ayurvedic health resort in Thrissur,Kerala. Thus the direct bearing of Ayurveda on Wellness can be beautfully summed up in“ the words of Sushruta, one of the earliest proponents of Ayurveda, “One who isThus, considering the manyestablished in Self, who has balanced doshas (body), balanced agni (metabolism),different elements and facets ofproperly formed dhatus (tssues), proper eliminaton of malas (excreton), wellfunctoning bodily processes and whose mind, soul, mind and senses are full of Wellness and the meeting points ofbliss, is called a healthy person.” Ayurveda and Wellness, the unifiedtheories and sciences, all contributeCulminating thus: to ensure just one objective, a happyYes. As clearly laid out by the NWI, Natonal Wellness Insttute, “Wellness is anmind in a healthy body! actve process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward,a more successful existence!” And woven into this holistc approach are many aspects like if all relevant querieshave been addressed as in, if people have explored their latent energies, if a” mult-faceted approach has been dealt with, and if it avows people’s positvevalues and qualites.Ayurveda prescribes just that; Wellness can be achieved with simple changesto life, positve adaptatons and habits, a holistc approach, and lifestylemodifcatons.Simply put, what is pain? Plainly put, pain is a sensaton that hurts. The defniton put forth by theInternatonal Associaton for the Study of Pain is that, “Pain is an unpleasantsensory and emotonal experience associated with actual or potental tssuedamage, or described in terms of such damage.”Pain is described in many connotatons. It could be an ache, a hurtng or throbbingsensaton, soreness, a stng-like feeling, tenderness, twinge, or a pinching senseand as pain levels go higher, it could feel like a jab or a stabbing, unbearable pain. The levels of pain are best described by the individual going through it and onlythey could pinpoint, describe or detail its intensity, its origins and the type andlevel of pain. It is something that is experienced or felt and cannot be seen and itis not apparent or visible. It is via the emotons of the person sufering the paincan we determine the discomfort, distress, agony, uneasiness and the physicalsufering. Pain is distnct and it is our nervous system that actually carries pain signals to thebrain and communicates it.
