Data are based on twenty twelve-twenty thirteen fiscal yeardepending on the service by the police. The data include hiring, eligibility to retire, anddeparture. The survey information is for Canadian provinces, territories and Census MetropolitanAreas (CMAs). Information on workplace mobility within police services is also provided in thisarticle. This includes departure, hiring, and eligibility to retire. Data is also summarized on lawenforcementofficers’ characteristics including their gender, Aboriginal, age group and minority2 status.HypothesisThis study seeks to provide a review of literature exploring the impact of police levels orresourcing, for example, the staff numbers and activities/deployment on the rate of crime. In so doing,they take part in a number of activities that include initiating tasks for undertaking administrativeduties, responding to calls for service, and enforcement. The civilians always contact the policein regard to complaints, to report a sick/injured/mentally unhealthy persons, false alarms,intoxicated persons, suspicious people, and traffic accidents. Apart from mentioned activities, thepolice officers are responsible for initiating other law enforcement activities like druginvestigations, neighborhood patrol, stake-outs, traffic control, stopping suspicious people andcrowd control, with the aim of ensuring community safety. Attending court sessions, providingsecurity at the courts of laws and writing reports are some of the administrative duties3 undertaken by the policeThe work environment and expectation of police are always influenced over time bycertain changes. These changes may include technological development or increased focus onterrorism that may require reinforcement of the existing force or reducing the number of officersth in order to cut on costs. A very good example is the 11 September, attack by terrorists on theWorld Trade Centre in New York City. This resulted to the role of the police being expanded atall levels.
