  • "Running head: SLP 2Health Care Organisation - MarketingName of the Student:Name of the University:Author’s Note: Module: SLP 2 1Marketing - Wellness and PreventionThe essay focuses on the current wellness and prevention marketing programs of TheAgency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (ATSDR) by assessing the existingmarketing strategy keeping the wellness and prevention in focus. Further, this essay willevaluate the limitations of ATSDR’s current approach. Of all the diseases worldwide, around25% of the diseases are contributed by the environmental factors (ATSDR, 2016). Accidentalrelease, hazardous sites and inappropriate dumping of toxic substance are the possible causesof environmental exposure that degrade the community’s area. With the help of technicalsupport and grants, around 29 states have programs and skill built by the agency. These exposures are mostly difficult to identify and control. ATSDR has beenworking to safeguard the communities from the harmful exposures from these dump sites. This agency works by investigating the communities that have experienced chemicalexposures and visiting the sites. ATSDR works around close to tribal, state, federal and localagencies for identifying the potential exposures and assess the health hazards associated withthe same. By assessing and identifying these situations, ATSDR then recommends the waysto prevent, stop and mitigate these effects. They work along with other partners on differentlevels and ATSDR helps these partners in building their own internal programs. This is doneto lead their communities and help them with the skills acquired from ATSDR’s researches. While evaluating the past exposures, ATSDR finds it difficult to analyze hazards. Thescientists associated with the agency help in estimating the exposure based on a similarexposure situation and they call it “Modelling” (ATSDR, 2016). They also use the“Biomonitoring” method for studying the individuals in the same area for determining theoccurrence of exposures and use advanced technologies for understanding these exposureswith more accuracy (ATSDR, 2016). Around 5000 people were evacuated in 2005 from Module: SLP 2 2Graniteville, South Carolina, when a train crashed overnight carrying chlorine gas (ATSDR,2016). ATSDR helped by mobilizing its experts to support The Environmental ProtectionAgency (EPA), Coast guards and other agencies for sampling andwork and monitoring thehealth effects. New sampling and cancer modelling help ATSDR in evaluating the effects ofcontaminations such as perfluorochemicals (ATSDR, 2016). They respond at the time ofemergencies like chemical spills and accidental exposures. The scientists guide the localsabout the timing of evacuation and the timing of returning back to community ensuring safetymeasures with the help of medical professionals and responders. ATSDR’s cooperativeagreement program helps in reaching out to the communities directly. The Cooperativeagreements help in building the required capabilities and power for better assessments ofthese exposures. It also implements different measures as per the requirements for thewellness of the communities (ATSDR, 2016).The Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry has the goal of safeguardingall the potential communities from hazardous exposures. ATSDR’s focus is supporting theenvironment’s justice work, addressing the harmful uneven impacts on populations whichmaybe the communities with lower income slab, ethnic and racial minority group members(ATSDR, 2016). ATSDR is among the 11 federal agencies under the Department of Health and HumanServices but its limitations with the current approach drags it behind (ATSDR, 2016). Thelimitations faced by the agency in its current approach are:? The role played by ATSDR is less visible at the superfund sites. Module: SLP 2 3? The exposure sites often have multiple chemicals and ATSDR lacks the exposuredata. Also there’s a limited understanding about the number of chemicals whichare more dangerous, whether alone or combined with other chemicals. ? These recurring limitations of failing to analyse the exposure within time pointsout the degrading wellness and prevention status. ? The agency also faces the lack of resources and social support that it needs intimes of emergencies.? The marketing strategy lacks the learning capability and advancement oftechnology and it never helps in getting the timely analysis (ATSDR, 2016). ATSDR needs proper information on the exposures and do these things within ashorter time span to save as many lives as possible and minimize the effects. The agencyneeds to reach out to the target market and work its way through the difficulties it has beenfacing in the recent past (Ladd, 2016).The wellness and prevention marketing programs of ATSDR needs properimprovement so as to achieve its goals more effectively and efficiently. They lack in some ofthe major area where the agency is supposed to be an expert. There are various ways toimprove the wellness and marketing programs of ATSDR. This will be possible by takinghelp of the other state and national level agencies or joining the communities with their workand gathering knowledge about the field. Improvement takes time but the benefits might be instant in some of the cases. Thesupport of social groups also plays a vital role in improvement of strategies that are alreadylagging behind. The development is possible by taking the help of various social mediaplatforms for reaching out to the people as much as possible. Also, by making sure that theinformation is being properly conveyed to the communities.Module: SLP 2 4One of the major areas of improvement is the research sector and technology used forstudying the exposure. The data and pattern analysis of previous exposures along with thecurrent exposures help in framing the methods for the wellness and prevention programs withevery minute detail (Self & Busbin, 2013).Hence, The Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (ATSDR) needs towork harder for its wellness and prevention programs so that the benefits reach the masses ina better way, that is, within time with better procedures. The work of this agency isremarkably significant in the welfare of the citizens of this country and it has proved to be amajor part of the community’s betterment over the past 30 years. The agency needs to workon its limitations and that would help them in marketability. The experience should be used toframe the new marketing strategies."
