Many men and women from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds have taken uppositions in different occupations since demographic trends are also changing with time.However, this type of progress also comes with possibilities of social conflicts and women arethe ones who are most affected (Van and Heerden 34).Cultural diversity has an effect on thebearing of women as it has been found to impact hiring, promotion, and interaction of womenwith other members of a workforce. For instance, position applied for by women influence the decisions that employers makeduring the hiring process. Women who are considered beautiful and intend to fill positionsconsidered masculine often experience discrimination (Van and Heerden 36). These postsinclude those of directors, managers, engineers, and supervisors. Good-looking men who applyfor these jobs do not face any discrimination. Also, women often encounter communication barriers, which is the common cause ofconflict at workplaces. Women who work in socially diverse workplaces experiencemiscommunication and misunderstanding with fellow team members with different culturalcontexts (Whitehead). For instance, supervisory approaches are a social and cultural issue.Where a white female is under the supervision of a Hispanic male, tension is usually Surname 3unavoidable. Unfortunately, the consequences of a culturally diverse workforce are dire,particularly when a project requires collaboration from all team members. Furthermore, there are entrenched biases and attitudes with regards to women within theworkplace have led women to choose between being career people or ideal mothers. In mostcountries such as Japan, there is increased pressure for females to show perfect parenting skillsas well as corporate cultures that require women to work longer making it difficult for women tostart families (Whitehead). Stereotypes relating to gender are common for women, and they have proven hard tobreak since many communities tend to engage this act. To deal withsuch a problem, there is aneed for the society to quantify and evaluate its biases, which is what is being done by theHarvard University, to bring change.
