One should aim at how gained knowledge can beapplied in a particular field rather than just to have theoretical knowledge. Thecompletion of project has helped me to gain the skills which are required forassessing and critically evaluating a particular case meant to be done individually orin a group. The key aspects of enduring personal knowledge development areshaped through contemplative learning by adopting a critical thinking approach byassessment of individual`s action and by self-judgement. This critical thinking andevaluating factors distinguishes the traditional and modern assessment. (EsaPoikela, 2004; 267) The traditional approach was helpful in building up theoreticalvalues but lacked the critical thinking aspect and thus the application to the realworld. The modern approach demands one to practically perform by possessingstrong knowledge skills in the social environment. Developing a particular theorydoes not help but the way a theory is applied makes the difference. For instance, thePierre Gassendi proposed the theory of light in 1660s but Thomas Eva Edison(1879) applied it to invent the bulb which makes him the famous personality.Organizations are aware of the terminologies related to the business world but thosewho direct their resources in an efficient manner are have a higher success rate. Thereason behind it is the critical assessment and evaluation factor which leads them tosuccess. The overall study has helped me gain knowledge that would help in transforming thetheoretical knowledge into practical in the work as well as social environment and Istrongly believe that I would be able to observe and recognize the different aspectsof the real world. The project started with a self chosen group and pursued with selfevaluation and study of the New Product Development process. The experiencegained during the group activities and during the core research is invaluable and hashelped to develop a thorough understanding to fulfil the desired objective. Moreover,53 the study has enlarged the vision required to pursue a project in a group or on anindividual basis. RECOLLECTION OF GAINED EXPERIENCE Diary writing, I would say is the most exciting and new habit that I have built upduring the entire research work and project. It was a difficult task to start with theproject rather was a tough task to work in group despite of having worked for theentire year. It took a while to understand with what we were supposed to do butinduction and the active participation of group members helped to proceed with thework and kept the morale high. The commencement of the research work startedwith a lot of ambiguity which kept on increasing during the development phases ofthe dissertation. However, after a few sessions the basic purpose of the project wasunderstood. The work started by choosing a group which created some hassles inproceeding as a few members were not very keen on working with other people. Toa large extent I believe the group activity was provided at the comfort of the tutors aswell as students. New Product Development Process sounded easy on the first go but the easiertopics are more difficult to understand on most occasions. Discussions in the groupswere not easy but helped to a large extent. For instance, it helped everyone to makea marketing plan and various aspects that were supposed to be focussed upon. There were a few arguments amongst group members on various points buteveryone had their own view point as the learning style differs from person toperson. As Annie Villems acknowledges a particular concept to bear the samemeaning but processing information is perceived in a different manner by eachindividual. I started my project by understanding the concept through reading various articles, journals and browsing website. Each material led to some understanding along withsome confusion as well as some questions which further required more reading. Thereading stuff became monotonous in a sense that different authors had a differentplan which created some difficulties in creating a well laid plan. However, the54 "
