Transmission of rubella virus, which causes rubella, can take place whenindividuals inhale the droplets that the infected people produce from the throat or nose. Rubellacan also infect the fetus by passing through the placenta (James, 2011). This is a mild infectionamong adults and children, but extremely dangerous during pregnancy because it can lead tocongenital rubella syndrome in the developing fetus. This paper will consider the primarypreventive measures, secondary and tertiary measures, and the role of the community healthnurse and other public health personnel in addressing the situation. The primary preventive measure that the community health nurse and other public healthpersonnel, such as medical doctors and laboratory technicians, could take was treating andrestraining the movement of Jane back to the learning institution. The community health nursecould interrogate Jane to provide information about whom she had interacted with of late. Forinstance, if Jane had interacted with her dorm mates and boyfriend, the community nurse andlaboratory technician could interrogate and test them. Vaccination could be the most effectiveprimary measure that the health community nurse and medical doctor could execute (Norwitz &Schorge, 2010). This could be the best primary measure for the pregnant women because rubellais dangerous to the fetus. In this situation, appropriate secondary measure against rubellaincludes treatment of Jane’s dorm mates and boyfriend. In case a pregnant woman transmitted RUBELLA 3rubella virus to the fetus, tertiary measure could include the use of appropriate medication toeliminate long-term disability or impairment resulting from congenital rubella syndrome (James,2011).In conclusion, the community health nurses and medical doctors should report theincidents of contagious diseases, such as rubella, and employ appropriate primary, secondary,and tertiary measures to address the problem (Norwitz & Schorge, 2010). The primary measureincludes vaccination, which protects the healthy population. The use of medication will beappropriate upon the transmission of rubella virus to a healthy population."
