Approximately 50 percent of students take part in study abroad programs offered in nearly 70 countries around the world. Steinhardt Social Research Institute at Brandeis provides research and information on the contemporary Judaism and Jewish community. The Pulitzer Prize winner and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman graduated from the Brandeis; this was named for the first Jewish Associate Justice Louis Dembitz Brandeis of Supreme Court.
