History
•The university was the first of the new wave of universities founded in the year 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in August 1961. The University will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in the year 2011–12 with a year of events to mark occasion.
•More than past 50 years, the university has built a strong reputation for the internationalism, research excellence, and interdisciplinarity.
Location and transport
•Situated in the rolling countryside of Sussex Downs, the campus is surrounded by South Downs National Park and is just minutes away from Brighton & Hove, one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the UK.
•Frequent bus services run in the campus and Brighton. The train journey to Brighton from the Falmer station is eight minutes distance.
Entry standards
•Standard A level provides are between AAA and BBB, this depends on degree programme.
•The University welcoms mature students, and takes a flexible approach when extending offers to the students.
Student mix
•The 55 per cent of students are female, 45 per cent male; 75 per cent are home students, 25 per cent are from overseas; Around 2,500 international students from more than 120 countries.
Teaching standards
•Staff have received National Teaching Fellowship Scheme awards annually from the past four years – a record matched by only a few other universities.
Academic strengths
•Our renowned faculty has included 3 Nobel Prize winners, 13 Fellows of the Royal Society and 6 Fellows of British Academy, and a winner of prestigious Crafoord Prize.
Student facilities, including library and computing
•The refurbished library which is available 24-hours during term time – contains more than 750,000 volumes and has electronic access to over 20,000 journals.
•The library's archives include original manuscripts by Virginia Woolf and Rudyard Kipling, and the Mass Observation Archive, a unique social history resource.
Sport
•There are excellent facilities for rugby, tennis, soccer, cricket and hockey, and well as two sport halls with equipped fitness rooms.
•A well-rounded sports programme provides 30 classes a week in activities like trapeze, yoga, sports conditioning, boxercise, circuit training, swing, salsa, ballet and capoeira.
