History
•The Southampton Solent University (SSU) attained university status in July 2005.
•The origin of it is a private School of Art founded in the year 1855, which became Southampton College of Art.
Location and transport
•The main campus enjoys a energetic city centre location, close to Southampton’s nightlife, entertainment, shops, and cultural landmarks.
•Southampton enjoys excellent road, sea, rail, and air links. By rail we are only 75 minutes from London, 30 minutes from Basingstoke, 60 minutes from Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Salisbury and just 15 minutes from Winchester.

•SSU provides open access to those without formal qualifications, in mature students with previous work experience.

•58 per cent male and 42 per cent female, although these vary by individual faculty.

•QAA Institutional Audit – highest possible outcome of 'confidence' awarded in both judgment regions.
Research standards
•Over 100 PhDs awarded to date, with a further 90 students presently studying towards MPhil or PhD.
Academic strengths
•Over 60 of the courses are credited by professional bodies.
•The official indicators show that more than 86 per cent of Solent's leavers were in employment or further study in the year 2010.
Student facilities, including library and computing
•Learning centers and a wireless network provides students with IT resources, PC and Mac both, they need to succeed.
•Specialist IT and computing resources are available within the faculties to assist course requirements.
