Northumbria University Profile
History
•Northumbria University has a royal history going back through its constituent colleges, comprising the Rutherford College of Technology, to the late 19th century. It delivers programs in 30 of the 32 most popular subject areas to around 36,000 students. Approximately 4,000 students come from outside the country to study on campus, and a similar number of students study Northumbria University degrees overseas.
Location and transport
•Northumbria University is the vibrant city life; the University is within easy reach of Northumberland's beaches, coastline, and national park.
•The majority of subjects are taught on the city centre campus which now boasts one of the most attractive learning environments in the country. Health, Education and Community Studies students are based at Coach Lane Campus only short distance from the main campus.
Course flexibility
•Programs are generally made up of many compulsory and optional modules which broaden study and the personal development.
•Options may be program-specific, from another area or sometimes from another School. This lets students to study a subject which augments their main course or one which is of particular interest.
Academic strengths
•Northumbria has good links with employers and the University has the highest number of the employed graduates in the North East universities.
•Over 600 employers sponsor undergraduate programs and accreditation from around 50 professional bodies means many students takes professionally certified qualifications. In the 2010, Northumbria had the second largest employer-sponsored students in UK. A number of degrees are available as sandwich courses, with placements.
Sport
•Northumbria has a leading Performance Sport Programme for athletes as well as a Volunteer Community Programme.
•Facilities at the award-winning Sport Central comprise a 3,000-seater indoor arena, a swimming pool of25m, golf simulators, a climbing wall, squash and aerobics courts and fitness centre.

•Gordon Sumner (Sting), CBE, the Internationally renowned musician, songwriter and actor.
