Izod Impact Test

Izod impact test piece, shown in above figure (b) of Impact Test Specimens, is moreover circular or square in cross-section and contains a V-notch at one end. The test piece is clamped at notched last in vertical plane like cantilever beam. At a distance of 22 millimeter from the notch the swinging hammer strikes the free end. The common construction of Izod impact testing machine is similar as that of Charpy machine except the hammer. The mass of hammer in Charpy machine is dispersed in a vertical plane while in Izod machine; in horizontal plane this is distributed. Now similar hammer is being employed in machine via attachable strikers for izod and charpy specimens.
