This reaction obtains place while austenite containing 0.77 percent C decomposes in ferrite and cementite at 723oC as point K in the phase diagram of in figure of Iron-Carbon Phase Diagram.

Solid phase separates into two solids phases. Steel comprises carbon between 0.008 and 0.8 percent is name as hypo-eutectoid and those containing between 0.8 and 2.0 percent carbon are hypereutectoid.
