Unwanted inductances Assignment Help

Assignment Help: >> Inductance - Unwanted inductances

Unwanted inductances:

Any length of wire has at least some inductance. As with the transmission line, the inductance of a wire increases as frequency increases. Wire inductance is thus more significant at the radio frequencies than at the audio frequencies.

In some of the cases, especially in the radio communications equipment, the inductance of, and among, wires become a major bugaboo. Circuits can oscillate when they should not oscillate. A receiver might respond to signals that it is not designed to intercept. A transmitter can send out signals on the unauthorized and unintended frequencies. The frequency response of the circuit can be changed, degrading the performance of equipment.

At times the effects of stray inductance are so small that they are not important at all; this might be the case in a stereo hi-fi set located at the distance from other electronic equipment. In some of the cases, stray inductance may cause life threatening problems. This might happen with certain medical devices. The most common way to minimize stray inductance is to use coaxial cables between and among sensitive circuits or components. The shield of cable is connected to the common ground of apparatus.
