Zinc-carbon cells:

The Zinc-carbon cells have a bigger shelf life. A cylindrical zinc-carbon cutaway figure is shown in the Figure given to us. The zinc forms case and forms the negative electrode.  A carbon rod serves as positive electrode. The electrolyte is a combine paste of manganese dioxide and carbon. Zinc-carbon cells are reasonably priced and are good at moderate temperatures and in applications where current drain is moderate to high. They are not good in extreme cold.
