AC MOTOR THEORY

AC motors are hugely used to drive machinery for a large variety of applications. To  know  how  these  motors  operate,  a  knowledge  of  the  basic  theory  of operation of AC motors is must.

•  DESCRIBE how a rotating magnetic field is produced in an AC motor.
•  DESCRIBE how torque is produced in an AC motor.
•  Given field speed and rotor speed and CALCULATE percent slip in an AC motor.
•  EXPLAIN the relationship among slip and torque in an AC induction motor.
