What is the Procedure of Normal saline dressing

1. First collect the supplies near the patient. Place should be clean with good lighting where it is easy to work. Use a newspaper to set your supplies down. Be sure you have a small plastic or paper bag or gloves cover to place the old dressing and discarded wrappers and gloves into.

2. Explain the procedure to the patient and take permission to do dressing. Make the patient comfortable. Provide privacy and expose wound area only.

3. Wash your hands. Wash for at least 15 to 20 seconds. Scrub your fingers, under fingernails, the backs of your hands and your wrists. Rinse in a downwards stream from your wrists to your finger tips. Dry your hands thoroughly with a clean towel.

4. Put gloves. You will do this to protect yourself and avoid contact with bodily fluids and blood. Wear mask to prevent infection to and from the patient.

5. Remove the old dressing if any. If it is stuck, you can moisten it with a saline solution. Try to push the skin away from the adhesive instead of pulling on the tape. This will minimize pain from ripping off adhesive tape.
