A biomolecule is any molecule that is produced by a living organism, including large macromolecules like proteins, polysaccharides, lipids, and nucleic acids, as well as small molecules like primary metabolites, secondary metabolites, and natural products. A more general name for this class of molecules is biogenic substances.
