What are the types of evaluation of lateral earth forces acting on retaining structures?

This section seeks to introduce you to the evaluation of lateral earth forces acting on retaining structures and to determine the stability of such structures. You know that structures which are constructed to hold back a soil mass are called retaining structures. Retaining walls, sheet pile bulkheads, braced excavations and basement walls are examples of retaining structures as in figure.
