TESTING OF RESISTANCE WELDS

There are a number of destructive and non destructive tests available for testing the welds obtained by resistance welding. Radiographic or Ultrasonic examination is used with all types of resistance welding especially flash butt welding. Eddy current testing is another NDT available for seam welding. The destructive tests are listed below :

  • Tension shear test- Spot, seam and projection
  • Tension test - Spot and projection
  • Impact test - Spot and projection
  • Fatigue test - Spot and projection
  • Macro etch test - spot, seam, flash and projection
  • Torsional test - Spot, projection
  • Hardness test - spot, seam, flash and projection
  • Peel test - Spot and projection
  • Bend test - Spot, seam, flash, projection and upset butt.
  • Pillow test - Seam.
