If hydrogen atom is in an energy level represented by n=4,how many spectral lines are possible in its emission spectrum?

Solution) There is a formula for this i.e

 [ (n2-n1+1)(n2-n1) / 2 ] So if acc. to your question n1=1 and n2=4 then the answer is 6.
