SCOPE OF BIOLOGY-

  1. Present century is witnessing explosion of information in modem biology directly related to life and health. Issues like global warming, pollution, population explosion, food production have solutions with biology.
  2. Diseases like cancer, AIDS, hepatitis, genetic disorder, malaria, polio and small pox and other epidemics can be controlled by the concerted efforts of zoologists, doctors, chemists, industrialists, health workers, teachers and engineers.
  3. Biology helps us to use resources to meet our needs like - production of crops domestication of animals. protection from disease and pests. With the help of biotechnology we have produced genetically modified (GM) crops and plants.
  4. It teaches us to respect all other living beings in order to protect this living planet.
  5. Systematic knowledge of Botany can help to discover many unknown medicinal plants, medicines like quinine, kalmegh, nux vomica are the products of such plants.
  6. With the understanding of the cause of hereditary diseases and genetic disorder, a biologist can do genetic counselling for human welfare.
  7. Anatomy and Physiology make us aware of the structure and functions of the human body.
