The following checklist is a starting point and it may be added to if subsequent inspections and debriefs indicate that this would be beneficial. It should always be remembered that the checklist is only an aide memoir for officers so that they do not forget to look at all the issues that should be considered during the inspection. The checklist is not the main element of the inspection, it is merely a supporting part.
Fire Alarm System
Does the building occupier have the completion and testing certificates?
Are any conditions on the certificates being fully complied with?
Is the system serviced by suitably competent engineers?
Does the fire alarm panel display adequate information and is there a plan
close to the panel so that the area of operation can be quickly identified?
Is the layout of the installed or proposed detection suitable for the layout
and use of the building?
Is the provision of sounders adequate to meet the required audibility levels?
If there are visual warning devices, are there a sufficient number and are
they suitably located so that everyone will see them operating?
