Importance of angle of twist:

Q: What is the importance of angle of twist?

From relation T/J = G. θ /L ;  we have               θ= T.L/G.J

As G,L,J are constants for a given shaft,

the angle of twist is proportional to twisting moment.

A shaft, for which angle of twist is significant, should be designed or checked for angle of twist in addition to design stresses in shafts.
