What is a shift register? Can a shift register be used as a counter? If yes, explain how?

Ans:

Shift Register: A register wherein data gets shifted towards left or right while clock pulses are applied is termed as a Shift Register. It can be utilized as a counter. If the output of this register is fed back to serial input, so the shift register can be utilized as a Ring Counter.
