Give the properties and application of brass.
Brass- It is an alloy of copper and zinc with 60 percent copper and 40 percent zinc. Its electrical resistivity of Brass is 7.0 X 10-8 ohm-m that is higher than the copper resistivity. This is ductile and can be drawn in different shapes. This melts at 8900C. Its exact gravity is 3.3. This has got an excellent corrosion resistance. This has got good mechanical properties.
Applications: It is used as a structural and also current carrying material in power switches, sockets, plugs, lamp holders, knife switches, fuse holders, wave guide elements, sliding contacts for starters and rheostats, brazing reason, jewellery and utencils.
