Write one minutes speech.
Rehearsal - My Most Important Thing
Some Detail DOs:
• Prepare and present a 1-minute extemporaneous speech (we'll define this in class).
• Consider in advance the one thing that is most important to you. It can be a physical object you highly value, or an actual value that you find meaningful.
o Examples of objects: My great grandmother's necklace, my laptop computer, a note someone important in my life gave me, an award I received...
o Examples of values: Honesty, Adventure, Creativity, Time, education, humor...
• You may use one side of one note card containing key words of your speech. This note card is to help you remember what you want to share- not to provide a script for your presentation, i.e., you should not read from your notes like a manuscript.
o I would strongly recommend not using any note cards if possible.
• Practice your speech at least 5 times (practice with your note card if you
choose to use one).
Some Detail DON'ts:
• While family and friends are often the things that are most important to us, you are not to speak about a person. Don't worry, you will get a chance to share about a very meaningful person in your life for your major speech #1: Tribute Speech. J
Content:
Your brief speech should include the following information in this organized format:
How to Organize The Content of Your Speech:
Introduction:
1) Greet your class and share your name ("Good morning! I'm Michelle and...")
2) Provide a preview (Example of a preview: "today I will be sharing with you my most important thing, which is my ___________")
Body:
Tell us in a story-like way your most important thing-speak from your heart, engaging your audience and being personal. It should sound like this:
"My _______________ is everything to be because...."
Explain in detail why this thing is so important to you. Tell us the story behind its importance and significance to you.
Conclusion: Leave us with something memorable. Why did you want to share this with us this morning? Is there anything you want to encourage us to do now that you have shared this information with us? You could also end with a quote that relates to your most important thing. "That's all" doesn't count as a conclusion! J
Be as memorable as possible--Have fun and be creative!!! You have 1 minute to leave a lasting impression that shows us your personality and what is most important to you.
