The recruitment and selection efforts of a company like Home Depot that is looking for a sales associates are different from the recruitment process for a university looking for a physics professor. The recruitment for department stores are done by the store level of who's in charge and the corporate is not involved in the process. Recruiters who are searching for sales associates focusing on candidates that have experience in sales; the minimum age is eighteen. When a candidate is looking for employment at a department store, the process is started with candidates completing and submitting the application online. The applications are then screened by human resources looking for the best candidate that meet the requirements. The suggested candidates would receive an email letting the candidates know they will get a phone call. Now, when the recruiters call the candidate, and no answer is received, the recruiters would leave an exclusive ID for the candidates to call back and provide. When the recruiters speak to the candidates, there are several questions that are asked. The candidates are graded on the answers they provide. The recruiters are given the candidates that have the best answers to the store manager to conduct an in-store interview.

The recruitment process for a university is handled differently; the department has to vote on requesting a new hire and the request is passed to the dean. If the request is approved, there has to be a committee formed, and the committee has to write an ad for the position. There are two different types of interviews, the committee read and select candidates to be interviewed at a disciplinary meeting. The committee will choose the three finalists, and they will be given a second on campus interview, and it could last between one to two days. There is a vote that takes place with the department on who shall be hired. The dean makes the final decision and also the dean is the person that calls the candidate to offer the position.
