In traditional medicine, research and practice are two very different fields. Doctors, who do research, develop new treatments and medical applications rarely see patients. Doctors that see patients, meanwhile, rarely engage in research.

This is not the case in Community Psychology. Psychologists, who do research and develop studies, also work with the communities and provide treatments.

What do you think are some of the advantages of working closely with the same people who are the subjects of research? What might be some of the disadvantages? Explain your responses.
