Assignment - TPM
As the lead systems engineer on the Adaptive Cruise Control system, you are required to put together TPM charts for an upcoming Program Management Review. Given the following data sets in the excel file provided, please generate time history charts for the two critical TPMs below.Requirement # 1: The ACC shall meet a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of 1,970 hours.
Requirement # 2: The ACC sensor shall report the range of the forward vehicle to an accuracy of 20 feet as compared to the true range.
In addition to the two charts, please answer the following questions:
1. Why is there no original and current plan shown for the MTBF TPM?
2. What went wrong with the range performance? As the lead systems engineer, what should you have done to recognize and avert the problem shown by the data in this TPM? And when should you have done this?
You can use Excel to generate the charts. See Hints below.
- Hint's for HW#
ATD = Achieved to date
The percentages are how close the estimate/calculations/measurements get to the goal/objective desired
- 'estimated' is based on pre design assumptions from like/similar components/systems
- 'calculated' is based on models/sims of planned design
- 'measured' is actually achieved from testing designed component/system
- essentially determining performance as you progress through life cycle. In order to plot the TPM Charts you may want to make new columns where you calculate the ATD Estimated; ATD Calculated; and ATD Measured and use these new columns for plotting.
In the past students had problems with the TPM charts because they:
- failed to indicate the units and term (MTBF in hours and Range" Accuracy' in feet) on the y-axis,
- leaving out one of the key factors to plot: Threshold, Objective, ATD, and/or Planned.
- not including the "Current Plan" on the accuracy chart
- failing to put the proper name of the TPM on or near the chart.
