Part A-

I - Discussions - Participate in the following discussions:

1. ROI Analysis. ROI analyses are often done with a consideration of a technology "life-time" of 3-5 years. Do you think that technology has an impact on business after that time period? Why or why not? Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts.

2. Systems Design. What is the primary target of systems design and what phases are included in the systems design? Refer to the video clip on Terra Nova Beverage Company. What two recommendations would you make for the new system design? Provide supporting rationale. Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts.

II - Assignments - Web-based Systems.

The grocery store, Wow Munchies, is considering developing an online store for customers to purchase food. Review the mini case from Chapter 8 for more background information that may help you complete this assignment.

The owner of the store believes that this capability will enable the store to grab market share from nearby Fast Food Co., which has a Web site and delivers food to the customer. This site will allow customers to purchase any item that is currently in stock in the store. The store will not deliver food, but will have the food bagged and ready for pickup at the time designated by the customer. Wow Munchies has a single storefront. Develop a three-to-five page paper (excluding the title and reference pages) that addresses the following:

Develop an operational feasibility study.

Evaluate whether the web site will enable Wow Munchies to gain market share. Describe what factors will affect the operational success of this web site.

Develop a technical feasibility study.

Describe what you would recommend the company use in the creation and maintenance of their web site (e.g. languages, specific hosts, encryption, etc.). Justify how your recommendations will positively affect the site and serve to meet the site objectives.

Develop an economic feasibility study for the investment into an e-commerce site.

Propose a reasonable discount rate for the economic feasibility study and provide rationale for the discount rate.

Part B-

I - Discussions - Participate in the following discussions:

1. Information Technology Security. Research the Ashford online library and other reputable sources (reputable technical periodicals) regarding information technology security. Give two examples of organizations that have identified security as a priority and briefly explain how the organizations designed systems to solve the problems identified. From your research on information technology security and the concepts presented in the text, what is the impact of information technology security on the systems design
process? What key factors need to be addressed in the development cycle before systems construction and implementation? After? Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts.

2. System Design Issues. If a project is poorly designed and constructed, will a wellplanned and well-executed implementation effort help the project to succeed? Will a well-designed and wellconstructed system overcome a poor implementation effort? Can you give an example of a project, system, or product that has overcome design or implementation problems? Respond to at least two of your classmates' posts.
