The maximum eight-hour average concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) in an urban area is measured to be 17 ppm. The NAAQS is 9 ppmv (equivalent to 10.3 mg/m^3 estimated at P = 1 atm and T=298.25°K). Automobile emissions are believed to be the only major source of CO; it is assumed there is no background contribution for other sources. Assume also that CO can be modeled as chemically non-reactive over the period of interest. Answer the following questions:
a. If the average wind speed is 3 m/s and the urban area has the dimension of 95 x 95 km with a mixing height of 500 m, what is the steady state emission rate (mg/m^2-s) of CO by the automobiles that would lead to the measured city air concentration of CO of 17 ppm?
b. How much of a reduction in the automobile emission rate would be required to achieve the maximum eight-hour average NAAQS for CO at steady state 9 ppmv ( (10.3 mg/m^3)?
The faster you try to open a screen door, the more resistance you encounter. When the door is released, the length of the closer decreases linearly with time until it returns to its intial length. Do any of the three viscoelastic models
A clean-earth channel, for which n=0.020, is 6m wide and lies on a slope of 0.005236. Water flows at 30m3/s through the channel and enters a reservoir. The water depth in the channel, just before the entry to reservoir, is 3m.
A 16-ft [4.88 m] span beam is fixed at one end and simply supported at the other end. A single concentrated load of 9600 lb [42.7 kN] is placed at the center of the span.

A cyclone is designed with an inlet width (W) of 12.0 cm and has four effective turns. The inlet gas velocity is 15.0 m/s and the particle density is 1.70 g/cm3. (a) Estimate the particle size that will be collected with 50 % efficiency.
determine the practical moment strength phi x Msubn for a rectangular reinforced concrete cross section having a width (b of 13 in.) and an effective depth (d of 24 in.) The tension reinforcing steel is four no# 8 bars.
On a 20 ft cantilever beam, Load W1=200 or W2=500 or both may be applied at the midpoint B or at the end of the beam C. The bending moment induced at th fixed support A, MA, will depend on the magnitude of the loads at B and C.
