A Carnot heat pump is to be used to heat a building in the winter to maintain an inte rior temperature of 22 C. Heat transfer through the walls and roof is estimated to be 5 40 kJ/hr per degree temperature difference between the inside and outside. a. If the outside temperature in the winter is - 5 C, what power required to drive the heat pum p (kJ/hr)? b. What is the rate of heat removal from the surroundings? c. If the power input to the heat pump is supplied from a Carnot heat engine with a hot thermal reservoir at 100C (and the cold reservoir at 12 C, far underground), what is the necessary rate of energy removal from the hot reservoir supplying the engine.
