In this study, the research question is; Do the number of hours spent by a child to watch television have an effect on the child's academic performance? In this case, the research is making effort to establish whether there is any relationship between the number of hours spends by a child watching television programs and the child's performance in school. In most of the cases, one will find out that each and every child loves watching television and without some supervision and regulations from the parent on when to watch television and for how long, children can spend most of their time on television. Following this the researcher would like to make a test to validate this claim.

To validate this claim, it will be very important to come up with a hypothesis which will be put into testing. In this case, the researcher can take the hypothesis (Ho) that; Children who spend less time watching television exhibit a higher performance in school. On the same the null hypothesis (Ho) will be children who spend less time watching television do not exhibit a higher academic performance. In such a sense, the researcher will end up coming with a null hypothesis which states that, children show no difference in their academic performance when they spend less time watching television.

On conducting the hypothesis test the researcher finds out that the p-value is less than the alpha value which he had selected. These results are an implication of the need to reject the null hypothesis. Hence, one can conclude that there is no any significant difference between the academic performance of those children who spend less time watching television and those who spend less time. Having found this one cannot say that the amount of time spend by a child while watching television have any form of significant effect on the child's performance in school. In such a sense, television watching can be eliminated from the list of factors which affects a child's educational performance.
