Discussion 1 - Some antibiotics act by binding to certain enzymes in the target bacteria. Describe the mechanism of enzyme action. Dicussion 2- In the last module, we discussed the legal use of DNA analysis in forensic medicine. In this discussion, we will take a look at some of the internal machinery of the cell. Organelles are essential for specific functions associated with a cell. For example, you would expect to find an abundance of mitochondria in a cell involved in energy requiring process, such as active transport of an ion. Select an organelle and discuss what functions might be effected in the body if this organelle was defective.

Disussion 3- Epithelia form continuous sheets of cells that cover surfaces in our body. They are important in the formation of membranes which act as a barrier and interface between compartments of the body. Choose an area of the body covered by epithelia (different from the ones your classmates have chosen) and explain how a break in this epithelial barrier might affect the functioning of a specific body membrane.
