Employers are focusing on implementing recreational activities and programs that could relieve the stress of their employees to generate better performance in the workplace. Chevron has made physical activities or "Fitness" essential for their employees. According to Health and Fitness Revolution (2015), "Chevron encourages fitness as a positive program by providing on-site fitness centers, alongside a broad range of illness, injury prevention and health training". This type of program is part of the culture and employees define it as positive, while interpreting it as a stress relief activity.
The benefits include more employees will benefit from this program since these platforms allow the staff to concentrate on other actions and diminish their stress at work. One of the major challenges faced by Chevron is acquiring full involvement form their employees. Chevron understands this and has implemented flexibility in employees work schedule, along with Health Rewards credits added to their health care plans. Chevron is focused on the method of making employees comfortable by providing flexibility in order to enhance concentration and thinking capabilities. Their hope is the result is employee increased health and creativity.
Does your organization/employer/workplace use or encourage forms of relaxation or any other stress management tools? How is it different/similar to the example above? What impacts does this have on the employees?
In my organization City National Bank (CNB) what is encouraged like Chevron is flexibility and Fitness. CNB is focused on a healthy joyful work day in order to bring the mind at ease, while still concentrating on daily tasks. Additionally, (CNB) offers volunteer opportunities in order to take pride in investing in the communities where we work and live. As a form of relaxation/stress management form the daily requirements of your role at CNB. The bank provides flexibility for colleagues to visit an elementary school to encourage kids to read in the age of technology. According to Quick & Wright, (2013), "job flexibility has positive personal, family and business outcomes". As well as the dollars and sense program which teaches young people from elementary school to high school sound money management skills. These programs allow for the time away from work routine to allow the colleague to focus on helping others to induce eustress. Chevron and CNB are similar in their encouragement of providing their colleagues access to programs that will increase energy and creativity in the workplace.
