(1) Culture bound syndromes are patterns of symptoms that are unique to or characteristic of a culture, ethnic group, or region. One of the many culture bound syndromes described in the literature is an attack of the nerves, which is related to anxiety and prevalent among Hispanics. The attacks are traumatic episodes in which the individual begins to shout, tremble, become occasionally aggressive, and then collapses to the floor.
