Question 1:-
Read the Townsend report that describes the lessons learned from the response to Katrina. In this question give your impressions on how much this report assigns blame to the terrorism focus of Federal emergency management organizations (e.g., DHS/FEMA). Do you feel that the report is fair in its judgment, given its connection to the White House administration that was responsible for the creation of DHS? Explain your answer.

The first major terrorist attack to occur after the 9/11 events was the 2012 bombing at the Boston Marathon. Over ten years passed between these two attacks, and during this time the nation's systems and structures that existed to address terrorism prevention and response changed dramatically. Research media reports that were published in the aftermath of these two events, and describe how the nation's response was similar, and how it was different. Describe how the nation was better prepared to manage that event as a result of the post-9/11 actions described in this chapter and elsewhere in the book. Explain whether or not you feel that the nation is better prepared to deal with the terrorism hazard.

Read the article about the use of social media in the aftermath of the Kenya mall attack in 2013. This article describes the use of Ushahidi, a website described previously in the module on communication. This event was the result of terrorism, and occurred in a foreign country with very different economic means. Despite these differences, do you feel that the use of social media would be the same or very different in the event of a no-notice disaster caused by a natural hazard, and in the United States? Explain your answer.
