Aim - To assess the students understanding of Research Methods & achievement of learning outcomes of the module with respect to the abilities to critically analyse technical papers, interpret scientific & technical data, proper referencing and citation of the literature.

Objective - Assess the students understanding & knowledge of specific skills required in understanding research.

A. Knowledge and understanding of the topic

  • Demonstrate knowledge of acquisition of information
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of module knowledge
  • Demonstrate wider reading and comprehension of topic

B. Application and analysis of the topic

  • Define a problem and identify constraints & use creativity and innovation to customer and end users.
  • Understanding of the requirement for engineering activities to promote sustainable development.
  • Understanding the needs for high level professional and ethical conduct in engineering with knowledge based contexts.
  • Ability to use and apply information from technical literature and awareness of quality issues and their application to continuous improvement.

Task:

Task1: A technical paper will be given to the student by his/her Project Supervisor or Module tutor and he/she will be required to write a critical analysis and an abstract based on the scientific information available in the paper.

Abstract: The Abstract must contain description of the topic, important applications of the topic, brief description about previous literature present in the paper, methodology adopted by the author, important results obtained and conclusions derived from the results. The word count is limited to 250.

Critical Analysis: With the introduction to the topic, students are expected to critically analyze the literature part that contains key findings of previous authors, methodology adopted in given paper, parameters used for analysis, analyze the results obtained (from graphs / tables) and important conclusions derived based on the result. Each topic has to be separately presented in the form of paragraphs and the word count for this part is limited to a range of 500 to 750.

TASK- 2: Visit the Library & Resource Center, e-brary and Internet sites and look for the literature like books, e-books, journal/conference papers, report, articles, videos etc., (preferably) related to the project topic or area. For this literature found, write the in-text citation and prepare the reference in CCE-Harvard referencing style.

The project title: (Compare the properties of the sea water under solar energy and photo catayst). The answer of task one abstract and critical analysis is from the journal. And task 2 not from the journal. Journal is attached as PDF and course work is attached. The structure in terms of logic and coherence - Submissions should have a clear start and a clear end. Information within submissions should also be logical and well grouped.

The use of relevant work examples and/or examples gained from further reading - Suggestions for further reading are contained within the course work and indicated at the end of the course work. These reading lists are not exhaustive and candidates are encouraged to read further and reference at the end of the course work using CCE Harvard style of referencing. Course work and reports should be solved by the individual/group. Course work and reports should be submitted on time and submission after deadline will be marked zero.

Course work should be submitted with an appropriate cover page, which can be obtained from the departmental assistant at the department. Name, student identification and title of the course work to be written clearly and legibly on the cover page. The completed course work is to be submitted to the departmental assistant on or before the deadline and record your name, date of submission and signature in the book with the departmental assistant.
