During a business seminar last year, a management group discussed the topic of motivation with respect to employees. Each of the group members shared problems that were currently causing issues in their organizations. Some problem areas mentioned included absenteeism, turnover, and poor workmanship. The participants in the group were all managers from various industries including auto-assembly, computer operators, business offices, sanitation workers, ect. During the discussion, one of the participants made the following statement: "What we need to stop all of these problems is a little scientific management."

For this problem, identify what are the problems, how things may be improved with scientific management, and why?
