Trinitrotoluene (C7H5N3O6), also known as TNT, is a common and useful explosive because it is not affected that much by friction or shock (thus is less likely to accidentally detonate). When it is detonated, it forms the following products according to this equation: 2 C7H5N3O6→ 3 N2+ 5 H2O + 7 CO + 7 C. There are several types of "blends" that are used, which essentially are TNT mixed with other ingredients. However, it is certainly possible to use actual blocks of pure TNT. Suppose I give you a 250 g block of pure TNT and you detonate it. How much carbon residue (solid carbon--the C in the products side of the equation), in grams, would be produced?
