Scenario:

You are a new graduate at a social science and psychological sciences research institute. The researchers have given you a dataset about mental health service providers in America for you to analyse. You will be graded based on the rubric attached to these  instructions.

The data set is from the National Mental Health Services Survey 2010, conducted by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality. The data is made available by these organisations at: https://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/SAMHDA/studies/34945

Data Preparation

For the purpose of your report you must use SPSS to draw a random sample of 2000 of the 7338 observations. You will conduct your analysis on this sample of 2000. There are instructions on the next page showing you how to do this.

You are required to produce the following five sets of analysis. Each item should be no more than 1 page long.

1. Page 1 - Produce the relevant descriptive graph and table to summarise the MODE variable (labelled Control: Completes by phone/mail/web). The MODE variable summarises the different ways that each institution completed the survey. Write a paragraph explaining the key features of the data observed through the output.

2. Page 2 - Produce the relevant descriptive graph and table to summarise the OPSEXTOTM variable (labelled QB5b_num_mal. Male outpatients - Total). This variable measures the total number of male outpatients at each institution. Write a paragraph explaining the key features of the data observed through the output

3. Page 3 - Previous research has suggested that more than 5% of all institutions are affiliated to a religious organisation. Conduct a binomial test using the RELIGIOUS variable (labelled QA8 Facility is affiliated with a religious organization) to test this claim. Provide the relevant output and write the report for your test in the style presented in the course materials.2

4. Page 4 - Previous research has suggested that the average number of female outpatients in these institutions is about 200. Use a one-sample t-test on the OPSEXTOTF variable (labelled QB5b_num_fem. Female outpatients - Total) to test whether the average number of female outpatients is different from 200. Provide the relevant output and write the report for your test in the style presented in the course materials.

5. Page 5 - The researchers want to test if there is a difference between the average number of male outpatients (the OPSEXTOTM variable labelled QB5b_num_mal. Male outpatients - Total) in religious affiliated organisations compared to non-religious affiliated organisations.

The RELIGIOUS variable (labelled QA8 Facility is affiliated with a religious organization) identifies if an organisation is religiously affiliated or not. Use the independent samples t-test to test this claim. Provide the relevant output and write the report for your test in the style presented in the course materials
