Self-Evaluation Essay When I first enrolled in Intro to Writing for my freshmen fall semester, I wasn't expected to learn anything new from this course, but I was wrong. Upon enrolling, I realized that grammar wasn't my strongest writing skills and after taking the Skill Test, it proved that I need more improvement on my pronoun, fragments, and run-on comma splices. The Skill Test results are fairly similar to the errors on my first writing sample. One of the common grammar mistakes I often make are subject-verb non agreement. Past tense and present tense often confused me because most of the time I just used words that popped up on my mind and most of the time making the word sounds good rather than grammatically correct. I also have a tendency to shift verb tense and using vague pronoun which occurred on every single writing piece of mine. Throughout the course, I was able to improve on my subject-verb agreement but still need more improvement on other areas like usage errors and pronoun reference cases. Upon improving my grammar, proofreading others students papers also improved my grammar by communicating and sharing your thoughts with others students. Proofreading not only helped me identified others mistakes, but also learn from each other’s mistakes. Comparing others student papers with mine helped me recognized my paper weaknesses and strength. The most important concept I learned in Intro to Writing are probably the concept of the SEES model. The model helped me by presented variety of sequences, examples, significant, and explanation into a model that make it easier to organize the ideas and formed into a paper. To sum it all up, Introduction to Writing helped me dramatically with my grammar skills and word usages. Using the SEES model effectively has helped me developed more complex and well thought out paragraph rather plain boring one. Looking ahead, my subject verb tense and pronoun cases still need more improvement. I hope I will use what I learned in this class, especially the SEES model and apply it in Compositions I.
