Public discussions about controversial issues are often turned into battles by the media. I feel they do this in order to stir up the crowd and get more people involved. The more people that are involved, the more people that watch the discussions on the news. Which means, more people are buying papers and magazines containing information on the issue. The publicity may not be the only reason, but I feel it has a big impact on it.
