Harvey saw a psychologist for a habit disorder involving hair-pulling. he was taught the habit reversal procedure, in which he became aware of each occurrence of the hair-pulling and learned to engage in a competing response involving grasping an object with his hands each time he pulled his hair. Harvey was an engineering student and found a couple of his classes particularly difficult. he decided that he couldn't take the time or energy to be aware of the hair-pulling and use the competing response in his two hardest classes. He used the procedures faithfully at other times, however. What is wrong with this use of habit reversal?
